Check your email for the signup sheet and the info sheet for our highly anticipated tournament on Aug 13 at the UBC golf course. If your name appears on this signup sheet by mistake please let us know ASAP.
For those who were not at the Meadow Gardens tournament this past weekend, please sign up ASAP as teams will be formed for the Calcutta and that takes more time to do than any other tournaments. When you sign up, please let us know if you CANNOT attend the auction dinner on Fri.
Note that the Calcutta event is just another special event that happens within a regular tournament, you may choose not to take part in the Calcutta and play this as any other regular tournament on the schedule (let us know when signing up) since you are obligated to buy back a minimum 5% of the money paid for your team. All members are also welcome to be part of the auction process and join in for the auction dinner (even if you’re not playing) on Friday night prior to the tournament. But in order to participate in the Calcutta, you must have an established handicap.
This year we will again adopt the modified stableford scoring format (par points) for the Calcutta using all 4 scores in a team. However, the regular tournament still in stroke play format. Things to remember for sure – don’t pick up after a bad hole to get DQ from the stroke play. Also the women’s handicap will be adjusted according to the ratings at UBC which is +4 but that is for the regular tournament scoring only, all women will be playing to their posted handicaps in the Calcutta tournament where Stableford scoring is used. In fact, nobody needs to do any calculating on the scorecard, just put down whatever number you shot on each hole, the tournament committee will look after all the tabulations. The Tournament Committee has found a software program that will help the immediate scoring results post game, so no problem for the winners to get paid out after the fabulous dinner that night.
We will be paying out the regular tournament cash prizes (up to the Meadow Gdn tournament) and the blind draw as well as the Horse Race winnings on auction night Friday Aug 11. If you can’t play the tournament on Sunday, you’re still welcome to join in and enjoy some good food and collect your winnings.
Please reply to the sent email to sign up for the Calcutta promptly.
