2017 May – Osoyoos Golf Outing

Just want to follow up on the Osoyoos golf outing in May, there were only a few members showing some interest in participating so Fern has decided not to negotiate any hotel accommodations since all hotels need some kind of guarantee of number of rooms.

Osoyoos Golf and Country Club

Here’s the golfing schedule Fern had lined up:

Friday May 26 play NkMip, first tee time 9:54 AM
Saturday May 27 play Fairview Mtn, first tee time 9:58 AM

Sunday May 28 play Osoyoos, first tee time 9:238 AM

Osoyoos Golf Club
PO Box 798
12300 Golf Course Drive
Osoyoos, BC V0H 1V0
Local: 250-495-7003
Toll-free: 1-800-481-6665
Fax: 250-495-3234

Admin. Office Hours:
Monday – Friday 8 am – 4 pm

If anyone likes to join in, Fern can add tee times as late as April 2. That means you will have to let Fern know before that day. You will have to arrange your own accommodation and here are some hotels in Osoyoos that you may consider (only a few suggestions)

Holiday Inn approx. $175 before taxes per night
Best Western approx. $147 before taxes per night advance purchase
Coast Osoyoos approx $169 and up depending view and amenities before taxes per night
Watermark approx. $216 and up depending view and amenities before taxes per night
Spirit Ridge approx. $250 and up before taxes per night

Spirit Ridge is where Fern’s group is staying. The price is per room but can accommodate 4 adults. Fern can provide more details on Smoker night (April 1) if you are interested.

One advice: If you are definitely interest in joining in, please book your hotel first and quickly as there are lots of activities going on in town that weekend. As mentioned, Fern can add tee times as late as April 2 but if you can’t find a place to stay, you’ll have a problem.

If you need more info, please email or call Fern.

2017 Smoker Notice

Hello Members,

I’m sure everyone’s as glad as I am this unusually cold winter is behind us. Here it comes again, the 2017 golf season with the VCGC is about to start, your club committees held their first meeting of 2017 to get things rolling, among other discussions, our Smoker is set on April 1 (see details below).

This year we get back to a 10 tournaments schedule since we are not hosting the “Intercity”, it’s Portland’s turn – a popular event destination – nice golf courses and tax free shopping, more on that tournament as soon as hear from the boys down south.

Please join me to welcome our newly elected president Darren Ing who has been with our club committees for a long time, finally decided it’s time to step up to volunteer his time and efforts from his busy work schedule in the bank. He doesn’t own a bank yet, but with the name ING, he might just snap one up soon. Many thanks to Gene Wong for his tenure as president of our club, he’s not going anywhere though, he remains in the committees as a liaison officer with the Federation. All other committees remain the same other than the tournament committee which now includes Danny Thong who mostly will be helping out Fern Chow in running the tee times, booking tournaments etc. etc..

There will be some changes in our tournament competitions this year; gone is the 2-round senior low net competition, we just think that it’s pointless to have this category since a great majority of our membership already turned 55. We still have the regular 2-round low net awards for both men and ladies members, while both the 2-round ladies and men’s low gross will be changed to be named a 2-round club champion for the ladies and men respectively, all other yearend trophy awards remain and of course the cash prizes for each tournament will still be awarded.

Our draft 2017 schedule is enclosed for your preview.

Our 2016 season was a busy one having to run the Intercity tournament et al. This year, we plan to keep things much the same with no increase in annual dues. The Semi-Ah-Moo fun outing will still be helped out and facilitated by Edward Lo although we haven’t decided on the exact weekend yet. As well, as mentioned earlier, Fern Chow will be running a weekend get-away to sunny Osoyoo in May, more on that later.

This year we do expect a few more new members and a few returning old members from injuries and other obligations. And again, for those members who wish to stay in our Social Category (aka Alumni), they are still able to sign up and play all our regular tournaments on the schedule, but on a tee-times available basis, and not be eligible in the prize competitions.

One thing I have to mention again, the “Hole in one club” carries on this year – it really doesn’t disappear in the off season since it runs perpetually. However, if anyone wishes to drop out of it, please let me know ASAP, and if anyone wishes to join up, I can definitely add you to the list, and there’s no cost to sign up. If you don’t remember whether you had signed up at all, please check with me or our website to be sure just so there are no misunderstandings. Also note worthy is that this club runs on a “fun and games” basis, the VCGC is not responsible for the collection of payouts from its members. So please make sure that you are signed up and understand your obligations (See attached).

So here’s the information on the Smoker:
